Knighter wins ’06 GB Hare Scramble round 2
D3-Racing KTM Enduro Factory Team rider David Knight gave KTM’s new 250 EXC-F a winning British debut at the second round of the WOR Events GB Hare Scramble series where the reigning Enduro 3 world champion topped the Premier class having comfortably finished two laps ahead of his nearest rival. After winning round one on his factory 525 EXC Knighter proved that he isn’t just a big bike specialist and powered the pre-production quarter litre machine to a convincing win in very testing conditions.
Starting almost as quickly as the two-stroke mounted Premier class rivals Knighter quickly moved into second and soon after passed ’05 GB Hare Scramble champion Ryan Voase to go into the lead. From that point on Knighter was never headed and opened up a sizeable lead on the first lap. Pushing hard for several more laps the Manxman then continued to maintain his rapid pace in the wet, rutted and muddy conditions stopping just twice for fuel and five times for google and gloves. Managing to complete 12 laps during the three-hour race David finished two complete laps ahead of his closest competitor Euan McConnell with Andrew Edwards rounding off the podium.
David Knight: “I got a great start and was second after the first water hole and then passed Voasey soon after. Some parts of the course were similar to The Tough One and at one point I followed what I thought was the track and went the wrong way. I actually did that a few times on the first couple of laps. I just got my head down on the first lap and pushed on. Once the first few laps were out of the way I settled down a bit and really enjoyed the course. I stopped for goggles several times because of the rain and mud and just twice for fuel . I was able to push as hard at the finish as I was at the start.
“The bike was awesome. I hadn’t ridden it off-road before the race, no testing or anything, Julian ran it in and preeped it up and apart from a bigger tank and a different exhaust system it was totally standard. I wouldn’t have preferred to have ridden any other bike given the choice – it was just so much fun. I think that I’ll get one for riding indoor and extreme events. There’s no way that I would have been able to have ridden at 100 per cent for three hours in muddy conditions on my big bike but I was able to on the 250F. It was great on the faster stuff and really easy to ride on the tighter stuff too. Although it was wet I had a great time - the bike and the course were great fun.”
