Knighter wins Genoa International Indoor Enduro ‘06
KTM Enduro Factory Team Farioli rider David Knight has claimed yet another convincing indoor enduro win, this time by finishing first at the second running of the Genoa International Indoor Enduro in front of 5’000 enduro crazed Italian motorcycle fans. Winner of the event 12 months ago, Knighter was comfortably the fastest rider competing this year and thanks in part to lightning quick starts and his ability to stay upright and out of trouble during each of his races ended the six-lap main event over 15 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
It was clear in Genoa from the minute David completed his first lap of practice that baring any disasters he would win the event. And following near perfect performances in his qualifying and heat races that was exactly what he did in the main event. Getting an incredible jump out of the gate in the final the reigning Enduro 3 world champion fired his 300cc KTM across the path of many of his competitors before rounding the first turn in front. With no riders ahead of him Knighter was able to get his head down and open up a commanding early lead.
Able to ease his pace from lap three onwards David kept an eye on his rivals while focusing 100 per cent on not making any mistakes. With the challenging track catching out many of the enduro world’s best riders during the course of the evening, Knighter made sure he remained upright while playing to the crowd on the final lap. Claiming the chequered flag at the end of his sixth lap David also claimed the quickest lap of the race as well as well as going home with 5000 well earned Euros in his pocket.
David’s next event will be the Hell’s Gate extreme enduro in Italy on Feb 11
David Knight: “I got a perfect start, which really helped me in the final. I was a bike length ahead out of the gate so I cut across the other riders and lead into the first turn. I held my line in the first couple of turns and then just got my head down and pushed as hard as I could for the first lap. On the second lap I just concentrated on not making any mistakes as well as pushing reasonably hard. I could see that I was pulling away from the other riders so I just rode sensibly for a couple more laps and then had some fun on the last lap.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better race. The whole evening was great. The track was pretty technical and really good fun. The track cut through to the concrete in a few places which was a bit dodgy but the hill was the trickiest part. It wasn’t a problem as long as it was clear but if another rider got stuck on it then it was a bit hit and miss. Like I said the final went great for me and now I’m gonna head back to the Isle of Man and prepare for the Hell’s Gate Enduro.”
